Welcome to Solstice House outside Manhattan, Montana, presented by Blake Maxwell at Skyfarm Design+Build. With amazing, open views of buttes and rolling prairie, twenty-plus private acres called for a strong and stable architectural form. The home was designed in the style of Northwest Modernism, popular since the mid-20th Century for its high livability, floor-to-ceiling windows, natural materials, clean lines, and connections to the outdoors. Built in 2022, the home offers two large decks and facilitates excellent wildlife viewing of all that open space. At 2,705 square feet, the interiors favor coherence and calmness. Three bedrooms and two baths comprise the ground level, while the pavilion-like upper level presents an open floorplan and beautiful views. With horses grazing on a nearby hillside, Big Sky sunsets, and the comfiness of a beach house, it’s a tranquil place where evenings feel like weekends and weekends seem like getaways. The primary architectural gesture is the alignment of the great room with sunrise on the summer solstice--June 21st this year--giving the house its name (see last photo). In addition, there's an ADU/studio with a separate entrance, kitchenette and ½ bath. Also, the private well was recorded producing 100 gallons per minute of water, which could easily support a guest house, greenhouse, livestock barn or pasture. Located on the Gallatin River Ranch, the vast 6,000-acre development is lifestyle-enhancing with two Montana rivers, over 20 miles of private roads great for hiking and biking, and an impressive Equestrian Center. It's also home to elk, mule deer, pronghorn, coyotes, dozens and dozens of bird species. Less than three miles from charming Manhattan, Solstice House is a 20-minute drive to BZN airport and 30 minutes to Bozeman’s numerous amenities.
